Prostate Cancer Screening

As an established cancer specialist, Prof. Höltl sees prostate screening as a special concern. Starting at age 45 (or 40 if there have been pre-existing conditions in the family), the prostate should be examined each year by a urologist. Why is a preventive checkup so important? In Austria alone, there are around 5,000 new cases each year. But: Prostate cancer is a curable tumor when it is detected in time!

How does a screening work? As a rule, an examination consists of a palpation and determining the concentration of prostate-specific antigens (PSA) in the blood. If prostate cancer is suspected, an ultrasound and targeted prostate biopsy under local anesthesia will detect whether cancer is present. The biopsy is conducted with local anesthesia and virtually painless.

Dr. Höltl can conduct a 15-minute examination right in his office. There he explains to his patients both the process and the results of it. If a biopsy is necessary, he will perform it at the Rudolfinerhaus.

Urological Cancer Operations

Cancers are psychologically and physically distressing for patients and their families. Dr. Höltl is aware of these concerns and takes plenty of time out for his patients. His reputation as a specialist in urological tumors - even in advanced disease stages - attracts even patients from abroad, who travel to Vienna specifically to have Prof. Höltl operate on them.

The clear objective is to preserve the health and with it the quality of life of cancer patients. Whether a prostate, kidney, testicular, bladder, urethral or adrenal tumor, his wealth of experience and the most modern infrastructure at the Rudolfinerhaus guarantees patients the best treatment and post-treatment available.

Other Urological Disorders

Besides preventive checkups and urological cancer operations, Prof. Höltl also treats the full range of urological disorders (kidney and ureteral stones, urinary tract infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia and others). In a pleasant atmosphere, Prof. Höltl takes the time to clarify and discuss medical problems with patients at his office.
